Califonia Wild Fires

On January 7, 2025, wildfire activity began in Los Angeles  County, California. The Disaster Ministries Team and other staff atthe National Setting of the United Church of Christ continue to be in  communication with the Southern California and Nevada Conference to monitor the situation and   determine how best to support communities at this time.

The devastation caused by the   California wildfires has left   countless families without homes, communities in mourning, and landscapes forever changed. As the smoke clears, the work of  recovery begins—and it’s a long road ahead.

Donations can be made directly to the   United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries or   through your giving here at CCA. Please be   sure to note CA Fires in your CCA Giving, whether   by check, a cash envelope, or online, so that   we can accurately account this donation.   Thank you!

Hurricanes 2024

On October 9th, 2024, Hurricane Milton landed on Florida’s west coast, less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated the
region.

Hurricane Helene landed in Florida on September 26 as a category four storm. It brought a devastating 20-  foot storm surge and 140 mph winds. After landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region, the storm proceeded northeast into Georgia, western South Carolina, western North  Carolina, and eastern Tennessee as a category one storm. Hundreds of people were confirmed dead.

As we continue to pray for and support those who experienced unimaginable loss, we invite you to support the UCC’s recovery efforts.

 Middle East Conflict

The war in Israel/Palestine declared on October 7, 2023 has claimed thousands of lives, and tens of thousands of people have been injured. Approximately one million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced, still within Gaza, as there is nowhere to go.

Convoys of trucks carrying humanitarian relief await the opportunity to bring much-needed relief into Gaza from Egypt, but the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza has been damaged by rocket strikes. Other entrances, controlled by Israel, remain closed, and the threat of an Israeli ground invasion threatens more lives and livelihoods in the coming days and weeks.

With ecumenical partners, the UCC has offered a public witness that has been unequivocal:
— Condemnation of the violence of Hamas and      Israel’s use of force against Palestinians in          Gaza.
— A call for a cease-fire.
— The allowance of the provision of                          humanitarian aid for Palestinians and an            end to collective punishment.
— The guarantee of and respect for safe                  spaces for people to find shelter.
— Support for robust diplomatic efforts to              resolve the core issues.

Donations can be made directly to the   United Church of Christ World Church Ministries Ministries or through your giving here at CCA. Please be sure to note Middle East in your CCA Giving, whether by check, a cash envelope, or online, so that we can accurately account this donation. Thank you!

Ukraine Emergency Appeal

On February 24, 2022 the Russian military attacked Ukraine. By March 1, 2022 more than 670,000 persons had already sought refuge outside of Ukraine and even more had remained in the country but were displaced from their homes. The humanitarian crisis is accelerating in Ukraine and in neighboring countries as the violence escalates and the number of people on the move multiplies.

Gifts made to UCC Ukraine Relief Fund will provide shelter, food, and other care to war refugees and internally displaced people. It also will help refugees and asylum seekers from African, Middle Eastern and other countries who had sought refugee in Ukraine and now are twice displaced, as well as other citizens of more than 125 countries living in Ukraine.

Uniting in prayer, action, and giving, we stand as a people of faith in love and compassion with the people of Ukraine and all who are affected, and with our global partners who are welcoming those driven from their homes.
